Az. Agr. Provveditore 'Barcagli' Vino Di Botte

This is a Maremma IGT wine that I can find very little detail of. I think it's a multi-vintage red of the type that some producers make as special bottlings at a good price (The cork has 2008 on it but there is no indication of vintage on the bottle. This could be because it is actually multi vintage and they were using us some spare corks, or it could be that it is indeed 2008 and they save money by printing the same label every year and not bothering with vintage dating it. Either way, this is probably a cellar door wine)
It's a very modest 13% alcohol and I'm pretty sure is 100% Sangiovese, for no other reason that the fact that it looks, smells and tastes like Sangiovese. Quite pale and slightly brick-toned, with autumnal, slightly dusty damson fruit, hot house tomato juniper and aromatic dried meat. Definitely towards the light and fragrant side of Sangiovese, which I like. The palate is all about a gentle waft of that autumnal fruit, delicate damson skin, quite open yet nicely savoury tomato character with good acidity. Short and uncomplicated on the finish.
